Strange things are afoot

You can't really tell by this first picture, but when I mow the lawn, I put all the grass in the back of the truck. Someone came along and put neat little rows of grass in various places on the truck, flipped up the wipers and put the tailgate down.

Next thing, we woke up one Sunday morning to find this tent on our lawn. There was a sleeping bag inside and beer cans (empty) too bad, all over the lawn.

This morning I found these ornaments on our lawn with a card. The card reads " We are the travelling ornies of conception and good luck. We come in peace. Please help us bless more families by passing us on to another yard ".

We are pretty sure we know who did the first two things, but this last one, I have never seen anything like it. I was hoping to keep them, but alas, I guess we should pass them on. Have a great day all.

Latest cross stitch

At Christmas I started doing the cat cross stitch where he is laying in amongst the books, but I had bought this pattern for the teddy bears a long time ago and if I Manda ever had a baby girl, I wanted to do it for her.

Lo and behold she had Addison in March. Needless to say, I ditched the cat cross stitch (probably for a few years now) Haha, and began this one. Whew, what a lot of work. The goal is for her first birthday, (stay tuned).

It's good to be back

I'm hoping to become a regular again in blogging. My daughter moved home back in December with her boyfriend and they had baby Addison in March.

I went back to work in May and things have just been crazy busy.

Now everyone has moved out and Fall is settling in, (one of my most favorite times of the year), things are quieting down again and I thought I'd like to get back to the blog.

Not a lot really. I bought this new wind chime today, too cool.

The other day, Karen, my daughter, baby and myself went for lunch, then Wal-Mart, then plant shopping, also cool.

I stole the red geranium right out of Karen's grasp basically, I am ruthless. These vines I got are creeping me out. I just set them on the counter and they grasped onto a cord on my kitchen counter. I am sure they will come down the hall next into my bedroom while I'm sleeping. (Must give Stephen King a call).

I did have my birthday last week. Karen is an absolute doll. She baked me these cookies. ( Hello family, I said me, what the hell happened to them, I think I got one. I am not on a diet, they we're supposed to be for me.) Karen also gave me a kitchen window gardening kit from the best store on earth, Chapters and a book, oh yeah, and a sticky note pad in the shape of an M. She is absolutely the greatest.

My mom and dad's gift will be to go to a ranch in Southern Alberta, (probably next year), for various reasons. At least 4 of us will go and do the whole farm, cowboy thing, I am totally pumped. Now I get to wear my too cool cowboy boots. They are too good to me. My sister is flying myself and her to Edmonton in a couple of weeks to see Chris Isaak and she gave me a gift cert. for Chapters. I tell you I am the luckiest person I know, to have this great family and friends.

Another friend of mine, baked me a cake, which was a work of art. It was a spice cake with shaved white and brown chocolate and cherries, yum. I also got from yet another friend the cadillac of wine openers and a bottle of wine. Oh yeah, I am too spoiled. My daughter bought me Desperate Housewifes Season 1 and will continue on with this, Season 2 at Christmas, you get the picture. I've never really watched this show, but am interested. Last but not least, hubby spoiled me at La Senza. So awesome.

Sunday afternoon in the Fort. Nice and quiet. Wanted to share a few pictures of Addison, she kind of has a funny face in the second pic. She makes the funniest faces. My camera reset the dates, I hate it when that happens. Baby is going out for her third lunch date today. We're training her right. Her favorite is Pizza Bread with meat sauce at Boston Pizza. Ha.

I was downtown shopping the other day, "Feeding the addiction" This is the latest addition to my fabric collection, I love fabric.

I also found these boxes, I don't know what I will do with them, but I thought they we're so pretty.

These are the flowers my daughter got in the hospital and the pink ones for her shower.

That's all for today, except that I am in desperate need for a few colors for yet another cross stitch that I have started. There's something wrong with me I know. I am a great starter at projects, but I suck when it comes to finishing them.

Oh yeah, one more thing, I know Spring is coming, because I saw the squirrel on the next door neighbors fence, even though Spring is coming, we'll just ignore the snow that is trying it's hardest to fall today. Ugghhhh.......

What's been happening

First off, this is me and the one that want's to be nana's only baby. She came down with the flu and was good enough to share it with my husband and I. This was Thursday night and somehow, we managed to not get it until Saturday night, thank God, because the baby shower was on Saturday.

Here is Addison, resting compfortably, what a beautiful baby.

We had her shower on Saturday, holy man, what a load of gifts she received, how fortunate. The shower was a success. Karen helped tremendously.

This is the diaper cake I made, thanks DH for the idea. The first picture is the finished product. I put a precious moments A at the top, bought a miniature tea cup, saucer and teapot set at the dollar store and put it on, some bathtub toys and scrapbooking stuff on it. My husband actually helped in assembling. 4 hands are needed for assembly of all the diapers.

Lastly, yesterday the grandaughter came over and wanted to build a snowman. The first is the one I helped to make and I call the second one a Newfie snowman. My husband (The Newfoundlander) makes snowmen by putting snow in a bucket, like you would build a sand castle. I have never heard of this, we always rolled ours into balls. The coal I used is from my grandparents house, God Love em, they've been gone for more than 8 years now, but this is something I have for a memory. Don't know why, but I do.

Also, notice the snow still in our yard. And this after continuous melting for about 5 days now.

The smell of money

The smell of tarsands is in the air today. The plants are at least 30 km's from here, and you can still smell it. Funny after 32 years, I never go used to it.

We're seriously hoping for a baby today or tomorrow, the hospital is going to do a stress test tomorrow on the baby.

I made the bumper and skirt for the crib, now I am making a hanger thingy to put diapers and creams in.

No baby yet. My daughter's due date was originally the 5th , but the Dr. changed it to the 9th.

But he did some stuff to her on Tues. at her Dr. app. to make her ready and she took the castor oil yesterday morning at 11 at his suggestion.

I think he made a mistake on changing the date. I believe that she is overdue. I think I was a Dr. in my past life. Ha ha.

I made the bumper pads and the skirt for the crib, got that all finished, kind of shagged up on the bows on the front of the crib, they aren't even. Oh well.

My daughter went out with her father last night for dinner. He bought this book by Billy Crystal for the baby. When she brought it home, I read the first page and that was enough for me. I seriously get so choked up.

And speaking of getting choked up, this other one by Robert Munsch is a serious tear jerker. I will finish the Billy Crystal one today by myself. The second one is a must have though. If you havn't read it you should give it a go.

Today was my daugter's original due date, but the Dr. changed it to the 9th. I really thought that by now the baby would be here. So nothing really to report.

I have sown the skirt for the crib and I am nearly finished the bumper pads. I will post pictures later.

Yesterday we had a visitor though, Miss Sadie came to our house. How big is she getting. And strong too. I can't believe it. It was so nice to see her.

Valentine's day

Valentine's day here was a very wintery day. We got lot's of snow. We went out for dinner with Karen and Rocky and also another friend of ours, so we had a double date and a half. It was very nice, I think Karen and Rocky we're with us for about 2-1/2 hours and after they left ( and paid for dinner) thank you guys soooo much, it totally was not expected, we'll get you back btw, we stayed longer with our friend, who was in from out of town. We actually sat in the restaurant for almost 4 hours. Omg. I have never done that before. It was such a great evening.

Oh yeah and about our weather, I took this picture of our walkway, snow much.

Poll: Inquiring minds want to know: Who will get to bury Anna Nicole and who is the father? I personally have no idea, but I am tuned in, yep I'm a gossip junkie.

Dr. visit

Went to the Dr. with my daughter yesterday. Believe it or not it is the same Dr. that delivered her for me.

Anyways, she still has about 4 weeks left, and the baby is weighing in (approximately of course) at 7 pounds.

The picture I have included here, the one on the left should be about the size of my grandchild when it is born. Holy.

The Dr. told her, if the baby goes to 10 lbs, he will have to give her a cesarean. Keep in mind now, this baby has gained about 2 lbs. since her last visit to the Dr. 2 weeks ago. Oh boy.

I have a bunch of small houses that my mom gives me for birthdays and Christmas.

A few months ago, I moved them to the top of my cupboard.

They all have names like The Library, or the Garage etc., okay so they're not really houses, they are buildings, but whatever.

Anyways, I was cooking supper tonight and one decides it's going to fall right into what I am preparing. Hmmmmmm........

Never paid too much attention, but now it's a couple of hours later and I look and I see that it's the General Hospital one.

Does it mean something??????????

I'm not even superstitious, but I can't help but wonder.

1.) My husband would say some of the get ups I wear to bed are pretty weird. I do not care though, it is all about being warm.

2.) We eat something called cheese on a plate. We slice cheddar cheese thin on a corning ware plate, lots of it and add water, then melt it on the stove top. Dip it up with toast. People seem to think that this is weird. They're weird.

3.) I have mentioned this one before, but at the grocery store, I have to have everything lined up perfectly on the belt while the cashier is ringing things through. Maybe not weird, but neurotic perhaps.

4.) I'm being offered a job for good money and I won't take it, very weird, but I am just not ready to go back to work yet. Ce la vie. (When would I have time to blog or mostly play computer games all day?)

5.) I bathe twice a day, never shower. So many people do not understand this, but it's just my thing okay.

6.) And I just can't think of anything else right now, but I know there are so many more things. Maybe I could say that I love bluegrass music, more the banjo than anything, yup, a real nerd.

Finally I blog, 1 month and 1 day since my last post.

I finished my project that I started in May. This is the fastest one I have ever completed.
This other one however of the boy and girl looking out the window, was started 11 years ago.

I got 2 ink spots on it in the top right hand corner at the very beginning when I started it. Procrastination to the max. I have so many projects started and not finished. The story of my life.

It is and has been so cold here. I am holed up worse than a hermit. I love being home. Even though, the last couple weeks have been very busy. This weekend I have 3 Christmas parties to go to. God help me. It will be nice though. Lot's of food and drink. Tis' the season.

My daughter and her boyfriend have moved home and my husband's oldest son has also moved home. It has been hectic around here to say the least.

3 of the grandkids also spent a night here on the weekend. We don't get that opportunity very often, because 2 of them don't live in our town.

With my daughter home, I am going to get her to help me do some baking this year, and also we have to get going pretty soon on the decorating. Lot's to do, I kind of go a little crazy at Christmas.

I'm glad I finally got around to posting, it has been so long since I have done this, I miss it.

Crazy week

Hello all. It's been kind of a crazy week. I had one of the grandaughter's for a day and a night, then I went to Edmonton for a couple of days with my sister. The picture of this house is where we ate dinner. Very nice, and of course I had to show you a picture of my steak. Absolutely delicious. My sister bought myself and my mom, (who was also in the city for a few days), and herself tickets to see a group call Ladysmith Black Mumbazo. (I think that's how you spell it). We went to see them after our dinner. I had never heard of them, but apparantly they sang with Paul Simon back in 1985. They are from South Africa. It was really a very nice evening.

The next day though, unfortunately, my sister had to get two wisdom teeth pulled, but it required surgery, so that kind of sucked for her. She's still not completely over it. It's going to take a while. I drove her car home the 4-1/2 hours it takes us. Pretty quiet for the first 3-1/2 hours while she rested, then she was able to sit with me for the last hour, which made that part of the trip better. She was able to mumble a few sentences anyway. That's all she wrote for now.

I went grocery shopping last night, when I get to the till and start pulling things out of the cart, everything has to be lined up and set just perfect. I can't handle it when people just set stuff wherever on the belt. Obviously they just don't care. Ha.

If anyone has ever seen the movie Sleeping with the enemy, I remind myself of Julia Robert's husband, now that guy was seriously troubled. I don't think I'm that bad yet, but I'm going to have to watch out for that. Scary.

There's something I finally realized this morning, when I curl my hair, I count every curl I put in. It's still frosty here

I guess it is going to be frosty now until sometime in April. Guess we just have to suck it up. I just finished this book in record time, last night. It is so good. I was reading the reviews on Amazon and they are all good. It is about a man and a woman getting ready to move in with each other and get married. She brought 3 children to the realtionship and as they are getting the home ready, she died. It tells all about his trials and tribulations with these 3 kids. A good read for sure.

Frosty morning

This morning it is -2 outside. All the roofs are frosty. I think we are expecting a high of 0 one day this week, yes, it is coming. (Winter)

I actually bought some floral things yesterday to make a Christmas arrangement for my table. Good old Wal-Mart, allready getting the Christmas stuff out. I bought a ball of white and a ball of red wool too, with filament through it, so it is sparkly. Good stuff for the craft collection, now let's see if I actually do anything with this stuff. Ha.

We had Thanksgiving Dinner at my parents house on Saturday, yummy, yummy, yummy. There was 8 of us. Good times.

The hubby is back to work today, all is quiet here. And that's all she wrote. Have a great day everyone. Can't wait to get the camera back. Hint hint. Neeeeeeddddddd pictures.

Yesterday, I was doing the fall thing, out raking leaves, and cleaning up some of the garden. Some of the plants though, still look so beautiful, I was actually weeding a bit. I can't believe it, weeding in October. We have had a couple of beautiful fall days here the last couple of days. Believe it or not, I actually cleaned out the garbage cans yesterday, Gawd, something's wrong. I developed a bit of energy, it just snuck up and bit me in the ass. It's cause the hubby's home, I gotta make it look like I do some stuff around here. Ha ha. Oh yeah, I mowed the lawn too. I am totally the best wife, just ask me. I have been trying to make one of the snowflakes that I had posted a couple of days ago. Holy, tough snowflake. But I will persist, as I will with a christening dress I am trying to make, I am such a sucker for punishment. I like a good challenge. I will let you all know how those two projects pan out at a later date, stay tuned. That's all I have for this morning, I'll check back with everyone this afternoon.

I am going to try and post all month with a Fall/Halloween theme. Today I found these pictures. The first two I would like to try sometime. Could probably manage the floral arrangement, but to carve those pumpkins, I don't think so. The third picture is what it is starting to look like here, not quite this bare, but pretty close. The trees here are more dense also, we live in the north, about 400 km's from nowhere.

The places I've been

I know I am so fortunate to have been able to see all the places I have seen. The first picture is of the narrows in St. John's Newfoundland. The second is of course the Golden Gate Bridge, which my husband and I walked across. Then the houses in San Francisco. Next is our hotel in Cuba. On to Vancouver, Granville Island that has an awsome market, great place to see. Disneyland is a place that I have been to 3 times and will probably never see again, I am all about white sandy beaches a drink and a book now. Next is the hotel we stayed at in Cancun. In Seattle, the Pike Place Market has got to be the best market in the world, then we went to the top of the Space Needle. Lastly, or I should say firstly, my husband and I went to Hawaii for our honeymoon. That's it in a nutshell, but I must say, all these places involve water. It makes me wonder if people who live on or near the water go inland for their vacations. Hmmmmmm.

Not much going on. Lot's of running around. Went downtown twice yesterday, a bit of shopping the first time then a friend and I we're off to see another friend in the hospital later on. Today I drove another friend to her dentist appointment and she is going to be there for a few hours, so now I am taking my daughter for her doctor's appointment. Might hear the heartbeat of the baby today. Later, I gotta get some more pies made. And that's about it. Maybe a little of cross stitch later on. Have a good one all.

I know it look's absolutely horrendous, but this is what we had for supper. My husband is from the east coast of Canada, and this is what they eat every Sunday for dinner. This I swear is one of the best things I have ever eaten. We cooked a chicken and had it with our's. We get salt beef that comes in a bucket with brine (not corned beef) We only get it in our town, cause there are so many east coasters here. You have to boil it for about 3 hours and towards the end of that time, we throw in turnip, potatoes and cabbage and it all gets the flavor of the beef mixed in. Too die for. We also have gravy, and of course it is a calorie free supper. Yeah. Then cheesecake for dessert. I just love food to much and I am totally okay with that.

Crow vs Raven

A bit of differences between a crow and a raven that I found to share with you, although I believe a raven would be at least a few pounds heavier. Also, a bit of lore from one of my native friends, if a raven looks you in the eye, something bad will happen to you. P.S. Do not ever make eye contact with a raven. ??????????? The pic on the left is a crow and on the right is a raven, but I know the one's here are bigger. They probably have to be to survive to 40 below zero temp's we get. They do create havoc with our garbages here too. We have to keep everything covered up good.

Ravens on the streetlight

Where we live, we have ravens, they will be around a lot more now that the cold weather is coming, they seem to like it. Yesterday, I was sitting on the couch looking outside and I saw these 2 ravens on the light post outside our house, which is kind of like the one in the picture that I have posted. So I started watching them for awhile and they we're kind of fighting with each other. The one who was sitting right on top of the light would jump up and down, while slowly moving toward the bend in the post, so the other one had no choice but to move down, then suddenly he actually started sliding down the bend in the post. I guess you really had to see it to appreciate it, but I found it quite amusing.

Her and I went for her doctor's appointment today, she is about 3 months along now. It is a really yucky day here, raining all day, but we really need it. Hope all is well with everyone.

Pink Floyd

One of the best nights of my life, the night my sister and I went to the Pink Floyd concert, and now, 12 years later, the DVD is finally out. I was so happy to find it at Costco. Costco rocks. It was $10 cheaper there than at the video store. I could watch this over and over, gotta get the stereo hooked back up to the TV, so the neighbor's can appreciate it too. Just have to share the goodness. The concert was the Pulse tour. 60,000 people. The best.

Fall is in the air

I do love fall. The colors are simply amazing. We don't get the orange colors here, but I still love it. You can see this tree here in my front yard is in serious need of a trimming. It is dark here about 8:30 P.M. Since we are so far north, in winter it is dark by about 4:30 - 5 P.M. We do get lucky in the summer though, it only gets dark for 2 - 3 hours at night. That's about it for today. Till tomorrow.

Not much going on here. The husband is on his 5 days off and I'll never figure this mystery out, cause he is in the garage mostly, but I just can't seem to get anything done when he's home. Call me crazy..... Went to the library yesterday with Manda. Picked up 2 books on quilting and a little fabric to get this baby blanket on the go. She is going to make it. I'm so proud. We went out for lunch yesterday, a favorite thing of mine to do. I had the diet hot hamburger sandwhich with fries and gravy. Ha. Manda had poutine and a clubhouse. Gawd I adore food. Tonight one of the grandchildren is having a sleepover here. We will have popcorn and watch Treehouse, ( a kid's station) all night. Hope the backyardigans comes on. I can't believe how quiet blogland has become. I guess life takes over sometimes. Until later, I hope you all have a super weekend.

It's her birthday today, she is 4. She is our third grandchild out of 4 and one more on the way. We will spend time with her tomorrow. She is going for orientation today for pre-school today too. A very big day for her. Love you baby. (This picture was taken quite awhile ago)

Manda, the one on the top is our friends old home and the one on the bottome is the one my great grandfather built. I think a lot of homes in the early 1900's or around that time, we're probably the same. Would be awesome to live in one. I would have my craft room in the attic with a/c. The attic's in these home's is just walking up another set of stairs. They are not like the ones we have in our homes today.

Not much going on today. Again it has been unseasonably hot. I think about +30 for the last 3 days. I actually had the oven on today, but I keep all the windows closed and the patio doors and it stays very cool in the house. I managed to make 2 apple pies. It takes so long to peel the apples, wine with that cheese please. So, I had apple pie for supper. It's so good to be the grown up. Ha. I am on the hunt for material, so I have been checking out the web for that, I want to make a crib set for my daughter. She is having a baby in March. I am so excited. Even though I am a step-grandmother to 4, this will be my first true grandchild. I have posted a picture of what the bedding looks like, and if it is a boy, we will just make a few changes, still the patchwork idea though.

A trip to Southern Alberta

Just back after a couple of days away. I had an uncle pass away Monday night, so we went for his funeral. Saw family that I havn't seen in probably 33 years. Too bad it has to be under these circumstances, Nice to see everyone none the less. I had to take this first picture as this is a lot of what you see in Southern Alberta and the second picture is a house that my great grandfather built. I was in this house when I was very young, but unfortunately, it is no longer in the family. I just have to say I'm am very glad to be home, no place like it and I will be catching up with all of you over the next couple of days.

Here is a picture of the rose bush my mom planted for me in my yard. It is so late in the season and it is still going. The date on the camera got reset, so do not believe that, I did take the picture just 5 minutes ago. Stupid thing. These are some of the tomatoes on the plant that I posted back about a month ago and the last picture is of my dad's sweetpea's. He grew them from seed and has actually probably cut about a foot off of them, because they fell over the neighbor's fence. My parent's have the real green thumbs. I'm just a wannabee. I will be going away for a couple of days, leaving tomorrow, so I won't be posting anymore probably until Sunday or Monday, I think I definately made up for it today though.

We we're hoping all the apples would turn red before we took them off the tree, but as you can see, the branches we're getting to heavy and we're tearing off. Wish we would have caught it before this happened. I did get a wheelbarrow full of apples though, God, think of all the peeling ahead. Oh well we're lucky to have them.

This is what we did today, we went and seen the R.C.M.P. Musical Ride. It was very nice. I had never seen it before. I guess it's one of the things we are known for as Canadians, is our RCMP. Makes ya feel kinda proud. The horses are absolutely beautiful.

I know this is really small to read, but give it a try. I thought it was funny. This is my kitten Chevy, 5 years ago, she's not quite this small any more. She doesn't leave me any present's, but if she did, I would definately call McGuyver to come and fix it for me. Hope he does house calls.

Garden snaps

On the whole, my little garden's are not that great, so I take just small pictures to show you. I have chives that grow like crazy, after years of having them, we finally had some on our potatoes last night for supper. With butter and sour cream of course. They are good. I really should bring them in and dry them out to use all winter like Martha would, ya know.

I have another rose bush that is in bloom now, it's probably so late, because I cut it way back, back in June. A picture of the one columbine I have, and lastly, my apple tree, it is so heavy with apples now. Oh yeah, apple crisp and apple pie. Yep, I am a food lover in the biggest way. 1. The one household chore I don’t mind doing is- What's a household chore????
2. The last person that made a surprise visit to my home was-My dad, I think he came to see the husband though, a little bonding, ha.
3. I cannot comprehend-INCOMPETENCE ON THE JOB. I have to agree with Karen on this one, people just don't care and it really gets to me.
4. At this moment I wish- I we're on a white sandy beach, approximately + 30 or about 90 degrees for you in the the States a tropical drink, a smoke, a book and the waves crashing. Yes that's it, a day in paradise.
5. The last serious discussion I had was with-could be my daughter or my husband and it was probably about me.
6. The thing that made me laugh the hardest today was-Last night actually, we had one of the granddaughters sleep over, she's only 3 and this is how the conversation went, I told her she was my medicine, of course she didn't get it so I explained, when I'm sad you come over and make me feel better, so you are my medicine, she still didn't get it, and just finished a bowl of cereal, so all she could think of to say was I'm gonna burp on you. I guess when they are yours anything they say seems funny, but I had to laugh at that. Love ya Karen, thanks for tagging me.

It was on 3 times last night, could only watch 2 though, I like sleep even more. I missed their wedding show last week, they are having a rerun tonight, so I will be watching that. Leland is such a little cutey. (An add on, Sorry Karen, It's called Dog the Bounty Hunter) they go searching for people who are on bail and don't show back up for court. It is good..I think so anyway.

Today I will be sitting in dirt trying to clear up the overgrowth and weeds. Before you know it, everything gets overgrown and it all looks like one big mess. It is so sunny and nice here today. Got some more of the fence painted yesterday, just waiting to get another can from the store, probably later on this week. It takes me so long to do anything. We had fun out last night. Slept a little late this morning. It's okay once in awhile I guess. We we're trying to figure out the last time we went out like that and it was in April. It's good to get out even if it is only once in awhile.

I found this cross stitch on someone's blog, I think it is so nice. I love flowery stuff. It's a little different too. The framing job on it is gorgeous.

Friday night

This is what we did last night. We went in to get a bit of fire wood. We we're bundled up pretty good so no mosquitoes we're nipping. We got home about 9:30 and it is starting to get dark already. Fall is coming. Nice to get out on the quad. It was just a very teeny ride this time though. We are going to interplay downtown tonight, it is an artsy type thing with plays and different stuff going on. Then we're going dancing for a bit, the Newfie bar then a country bar. It's been forever since we we're out. Can't wait.

Our city

Just wanted to share a few pics of our city. The first one is downtown. We are divided into 6 different areas, a valley, which is downtown and all the other areas are on the surrounding hills. Kind of deceiving. We have 75,000 people here.

The picture above on the right, is coming into our beautiful city. The Northern Lights on the bottom left always amaze me. I have seen them this bright a few times, but normally, they are a little dimmer than this. Absolutely stunning, takes my breath away every time. Last but not least, bottom right is one of those really cold living up north days. The ice fog just hangs in the air. This is when you go home and put another log in your woodstove.

That is it for my Friday post. The husband is finally off for a few days, so we will be venturing out for a bit. Kind of a rainy day here. It's all good.

Paper Cutting

Years ago a friend of mine gave me this Victorian style paper cutting that she had done. She call's it Scherenscnitte, I do too, it's just that when searching for it, most people go by the term paper cutting. I did one myself, about 8 years ago of a hot air balloon, very detailed work let me tell you. It's like writing really hard with a pen for a long time, the fingers get stiff. I use a pen knife and a green crafting mat, like you would use for cutting fabric on with a roller blade.

I ordered myself a bunch of patterns last year, and this is the first set that I am working on. Not sure exactly how I will frame these, but the first pic is of all the reindeer and the sleigh.

The second one is one that I am in the middle of doing. When you are done cutting, you turn it over, then you won't see any of the lines you use for your guide.

This last picture is of the 3 that I have completed. You have to be very careful, because it can tear so easy.

Geranium Stuff

Okay, this is a question DH asked awhile ago, regarding what to do with geraniums over the winter, to try and keep them, so you can grow them again the next season.

For those in cold climates, you can overwinter your geraniums and have them for the next year. This can be accomplished by digging the plants up and also with cuttings. Either way, you will need to get geraniums out before the first frost.
If you want to keep your geraniums in a pot for winter, dig them carefully out of the ground and prune back to about half the size. Put them in a cool area but in a sunny window or under artificial plant lights. Occasional pruning by pinching off will help them be full for next year.
To save cuttings, take geranium cuttings of about 4" from the ends of the shoots and dip in rooting hormone. Stick them upright in a peat moss mixed with sand so that they stand on their own. Water thoroughly and place plastic near bright light. When roots start in 8 weeks - plant them in pots. By May you should have some great geraniums to plant in your garden border
You can also save your geraniums by digging them up before the first frost and hanging upside down in a cool dry place over the winter. Soak the geranium roots once a month over the winter - the plants will look quite dead but have faith. In March, prune them back and plant in a pot in soil. The geraniums should be looking quite dandy by the time May planting rolls around.
Saving your geraniums over winter like this can seem like a lot of work, but if you are short on cash in your landscaping budget then this is a great way to get more flowers for nothing. Geraniums can be particularly expensive so it makes sense to put forth the effort to save them for the next year. Plus it can be a rewarding task!
Geraniums are good plants for cottage gardens, borders and containers. They will attract bees and butterflies but are also disease and deer resistant.

Well that's it for the geraniums, sounds like a lot huh. I never save them and it's such a shame, because they are so nice. I think basically you could just cut them down and water them minimally, they kind of just need a rest period over the winter. (This is a pic of one of mine right now.)

The first week

I have started back to work after 5 months off. I am working somewhere different now as a contractor, something really different for me. I am a teamster? I don't know really how to take that, I think I might be part of the Mafia now??????? I have always wanted to go to Sicily. Maybe I used to live there in my previous life. Okay, goin on like a crazy girl here. Working as a contractor, and not for the "COMPANY" , the rules are a teeny bit more relaxed. I like that. I also like what I'm doing, operating forklifts, moving material. It's all good. All in all, I loved staying home, but truthfully, it is pretty good to get back to work too.

The only thing I havn't figured yet, is I think Jackie was a Radziwill. I swear they are all related somehow, Kennedy's, Radziwill's, I think there's some Turner's in there. P.S. The job went okay today, I will definately have to give it a bit of time. Also an extremely miserable day here. Really good if your a duck though. Til tomorrow.

My new job

This is it, my last day off after 5 months. I left my job of 17 years at the beginning of March for a bunch of reasons, anyway it has been so nice to be off. I did not intend to even look for a job this soon, it was the last thing I wanted. A friend of mine called and said they we're looking for someone to do some warehousing, which is what I do, Parts and warehousing yada yada yada. It is sort of just off site from where I used to work. I figured I have nothing to lose and I should at least give it a try. I know I will not sleep a wink tonight, that is how I am. No reason to worry, it's just me. I will keep you posted.
